8BitDo micro vs 8BitDo Zero 2
Hey Gamers. I bought this as a replacement for the previous 8BitDo Zero 2, and I think it will work well.I wanted the added buttons: two additional shoulder buttons, a home/menu button, and a screenshot button. The buttons and general build are high-quality. The shoulder buttons have a decisive click to them, which will help with some games, but the L2 and R2 can be hard to hit. Thatâs okay. Iâm just glad they are there. This micro is easier to turn off and on than the Zero 2. You just hold the Home button.I mostly use these small controllers on my iPhone 13 and occasionally the Switch. I like to have a low-profile, portable controller.I did not experience the compatibility issues that I read in the other reviews. The device was shipped with the newest 1.02 firmware. While there is no X mode, I was able to connect the controller to my iPhone in S mode and all the buttons work. I am able to play games in iOS like Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Stardew Valley, Disgaea 1 Complete, and Dead Cells Netflix Version. The controls have very little latency which is great. I have run into latency issues in the past when using wireless controllers on iPhone.iPhone use requires a little setup. Connect via Bluetooth using S mode. The 8BitDo micro is seen as âPro Controllerâ. You have to go into Settings -> General -> Game Controller and add a new profile. Change A to B, B to A, X to Y, and Y to X. After doing this the controller functions as expected. This is similar to how some of my Switch controllers operate as well.In conclusion, although the device required a little setup, it works as I expected and I think the $22 price is very reasonable. Thanks for reading, have a nice day

Good tiny remote
This brought a good pretty solid, easy setup, there’s an app that you had to download so get ready for that. Seems like everything has a app but anyway, controller feels comfortable in your hands even though it’s small, works really well, and is actually pretty good on battery. And this is the guy with big hands saying this by the way Didn’t have to charge it for days, and I would usually spend about two or three hours playing on this thing. Would recommend

Be careful, itâs delicate!
It worked great for âretro gamesâ on my iPhone. Connectivity was a breeze! The build is good in the sense that the buttons feel good, and the tiny controller feels surprisingly nice in the hand. However, itâs is VERY lightweight and breaks very easily. An errant brush of my arm (because of its feather-like weight) sent it off a two-foot-high end table, and that was enough for it to ârapidly disassembleâ into a bunch of little pieces. It was actually comical how eager it seemed to completely fall apart. Honestly, itâs still worth it; itâs a great little controller, just be more careful with it than I was.

A solid little travel controller and way better than touch screen controls for mobile devices
First, I want to mention that if your controller is having disconnection problems, immediately check the firmware and update it. v1.04 resolved these problems for me so I encourage you to try that first.Pros:+ The buttons are surprisingly good. It’s a little bit scrunched but I was able to play most retro games on an iPad Air 5 and iPad Mini 5. It’s far superior to touch screen controls+ Lightweight. With the lanyard attached it’s 29 grams. Without, it’s 26 grams. The portability factor means that I don’t mind bringing it along for travel or commuting.+ USB Type C charging is incredibly convenient+ Battery life seems to be solid and I’ve been able to get several hours of usage over the course of a week.+ For iOS and iPad OS, the DirectInput option seems to play best with most emulators like Delta. Keyboard mode works well as a fallback option for other games.+ The companion app on mobile lets you customize the buttons and use the controller as a keyboard with several profiles to change the mappings. I used this a ton with iDOS for old MS-DOS games and to also use with different iOS apps. It worked surprisingly well for me on iOS.Cons- Out of the box I did have many disconnect problems on an iPad Air 5. The controller shipped with Firmware v1.03. After connecting it to a PC and using the updater tool to update the firmware to v1.04, the connectivity problems have been resolved. Make sure you try a firmware update if you experience disconnection problem.- The ergonomics are going to depend a lot on your hand size. I find this is okay for short sessions but it may cramp up your hand if you play too much.- Sometimes I find it far easier to press L2 and R2 on the inside of the controller than the outer L1 and R1 buttons. This is a fairly minor concern.

Perfect for my use case
I don’t actually own a Nintendo Switch. However, I set up a RetroPie emulator on a Raspberry Pi 3 for games from the nes, snes, gb, gba, etc. and this little controller fits the bill exactly. Bluetooth allows me to connect it wirelessly so I can sit on the couch and it has the correct buttons and triggers for all the old Nintendo titles. Top it all off with usb-c recharging, solid responsive buttons and snappy responses, good build quality and lightweight, and I get exactly what I need! 10/10

This is the perfect controller to have for Anki. For starters, at the bottom of the controller you can essentially create 3 different Bluetooth profiles. I have one for my PC, one for my MacBook, and the other for my Surface Pro tablet. It charges USB-C. It has a plethora of buttons to be mapped using joy2key for PC and karabiner elements for Mac. 12 hour battery life. Super portable and small for travel, yet the buttons are firm – not a flimsy remote at all. Anki is more of a game than it’s ever been thanks to this solid remote.
