Great for a generic travel lens, not the best for birding.
It is a great travel lens for the money. It is light and fairly small, with a wide field to long zoom capablility, so you can get by with one lens for a wide variety of applications from shooting landscapes, rooms, portraits, and even whale watching trips. The biggest issue is that low cost means small diameter lenses and therefore the F6.3 at 240mm for overcast days outside will require higher ISO and/or lower shutter speeds – which may cause a problem for moving animals or birds in flight. The sharpness is very good below F18, and optimal around F10.

Excellent all-around lens!
This lens covers from wide (24mm) to tele (240mm) with excellent sharpness and color rendition. I know some reviewers have commented on vignetting at wide angles. This should be expected with a lens barrel as long as it needs to be for the 240mm end of the scale, but it is not as bad as they say. If you import into Lightroom, for example, and apply the standard Adobe lens correction for the lens, the vignetting almost disappears, and without losing much of the frame – due to the correction being applied for wide angle distortion. Is this a “real” 24 mm wide angle lens? Of course not! It is really good, but if you need edge-to-edge sharpness without vignetting, you’ll need a serious wide-angle prime or zoom lens. There aren’t many available for the RF mount at this time, and most will set you back a lot more than this lens costs. For what it is, a not-inexpensive zoom that covers the full range well, it is a great lens. It is not everything for every purpose. I still give it 5 stars, as I think it is an excellent buy for most enthusiasts. A pro would naturally want to add other lenses depending on needs, such as a true wide angle, a portrait lens, and/or a serious super-telephoto.

Itâs a big ol lense but itâs crazy versatile
Itâs not the only lens id ever need or want, but itâs the lens that stays on my camera unless i plan on needing something specific. Itâs not the fastest, or lightest, youâd probably want something a little wider for real estate and longer for wildlife, faster for portraits and low light, but if you keep your camera with you at all times and want to be ready for 90% of anything itâs great. 100% would buy again.

To me, the zoom ring is too stiff
I only used it once and that was for a live music performance. I had been using the wonderful EF 18-135 on my 90D with the power zoom attachment which is wonderful. BUT I decided to switch to two RF bodies (R6’s) and try pulling zoom manually with one of those rubber band attached handles and that did NOT work out too well! The darned zoom ring is SO tight that there was no way to make a smooth zoom pull. I think the whole RF line is great for stills but for video we are simply not there yet. If you are just shooting stills, this should serve you well but that darned zoom ring is WAY too stiff. I would much prefer something easier to turn that this one. IQ seemed to be OK on the one day that I tried it before returning the lens. Way, way, way too stiff IMHO. Happy shooting out there!

Great lens!
I’m using this on an R5 and it makes for a fantastic walkabout lens! Very happy with. Extremely sharp pictures.

Met expectations
A very useful and convenient general purpose lens – avoids the need to deal with multiple lenses for the EOS R series cameras. Some reviewers complain that this lens has excessive vignetting at 24mm wide angle in RAW. This lens was certainly designed to use post-processing software lens correction. With this in mind, Canon was able to provide an extremely versatile lens at a fairly reasonable price. Of course, it’s not an L lens but I’ve found its sharpness to be much better than acceptable and its image quality very good when used with the lens corrections function in Lightroom. It compares favorably with my other high quality lenses.

Excellent walkabout lens
I have used Tamron lenses with my previous Canon DSLR, 6D mk II but of course Tamron doesn’t yet have any full frame RF lenses. That said, this 24-240 is a solid general purpose “walkabout” lens.It has a decent range. My only real criticism is that Canon doesn’t include a lens hood.

Wonderful multi purpose lens
This is a wonderful lens. It solves having to buy too many other lenses for the new R series. If you use this and then the 100 – 500 mm Telephoto Zoom you have much of the sizes of the pictures you’ll want to take. Only drawback is very low light won’t work and you’ll need to find something for that.

Because I just bought a Canon EOS RP, I was considering between the RF 24 – 105 lens(but the redline one) and this 24 – 240. I knew that 24 – 105 is more expensive and it’s a redline lens. We all know Canon’s redline lenses are great. But I thought that I can’t shoot objects from a little farther away, so I chose the 24 – 240 one. I’ve used it for traveling, and it worked absolutely great. You can shoot almost everything in your daily use. And the image quality was great too and it surprised me. At last, if you are a Canon’s mirrorless camera’s owner and you want a lens that’s for walk around every day, this is the perfect one you should choose!

No words I love it. Light weight good price. Clear image.

It is light weight, which was what I wanted for a walk around camera. The only thing I would have improved, that likely would have increased its weight, and therefore not what I wanted, would be if it had a constant F range rather than the F4 – 6.3. But just received it last night, did a quick test indoors, with low light, and my results on my Canon R5 MKii were acceptable, although very high ISO, which is also acceptable with this camera. It focused quickly even in low light. I purchased it for an all round lens for my Canon R7 crop sensor and Canon R5 MKii full frame, based on other professional reviews, camera stores, and Scott Kelby, professional photographer, and I think I will be fully satisfied to get it out on a hike, or walking around town.
