ASUS ROG Ally’s Best Friend
Does exactly what it says it’ll do. I’ve had mine for over 6 months now and still going strong. I have no problem achieving 30W turbo mode w/ the 100w pass thru charging thats advertised. And thats w/ the extra 4tb ssd in the hub and keyboard and mouse dongles attached. This hub plus the AllyMate adapter keeps the hub to the back of the Ally and they both fit inside the new ASUS Ally Hardcase without needing to separate.

Needed an ssd enclosure, got something better.
I didn’t know this existed until I realized I needed an ssd enclosure to migrate my laptops OS to another SSD. This helped me do what I wanted and gave my old ssd external potential along with many ports that my computer lacks. Would recommend if it’s on sale.

Very Responsive
This is very responsive, when plugged into the USB c it connects immediately. Data transfer seems to be on within the specs of what it needs to be. Its rather thick for what it is but that is not really a complaint, just takes up more room when traveling.

Pretty much unusable as an external enclosure
With a WD Black NVMe stick installed, the thing gets to be over 120 degrees F on the side the drive door is on. Its too hot to touch. Eventually, the dock overheats and fails. The opening does not provide enough clearance to add an additional heatsink to the drive. That being said, I havent been able to use it for more than approx 30 minutes. I wouldve returned it but I threw the box away before I realized it was as bad as it is.

Significant heat dissipation issues for this user.
My goal is to have a fast and portable video editing solution with ample, fast storage for video. My M2 Macbook Air, Final Cut Pro and iPad mini as an external monitor work fantastically well for this. I purchased this HUB/dock for storing and editing large video files on the go. It does not have Thunderbolt speed but the 10Gb/s speed is pretty decent for editing.I think the flaw in this device is its design. The m.2 stick (in my case 4TB) fits in a slot on the bottom of the device. The bottom of the device in metal and the m.2 stick is covered with a metal plate. The device is only about 1/16â inch above the surface itâs sitting on leaving little room for air flow. The rest of the case is plastic so there is no way to help dissipate the high heat generated by the m.2 stick. So after copying a 3MB file (about 5-6 minutes) the hub shuts down and disappears from the finder. Not useful!I have now switched to another hub/dock from a different company. The case is entirely metal and the m.2 stick is placed on the top side of the unit. The entire case, although very warm, serves as a heatsink. So far, no problems. So be aware of heat issues with the new nmve form factor ssdâs and using them in external cases and doc/hubs. I also discovered that hub/dock makers donât seem to want to leave enough room in their cases for heat sinks on the ssd sticks themselves.

Finally able to use this on refurbished laptop.
I received this as part of the Amazon Vine program. All opinions are my own. This works great for the refurbished laptop I picked up. I needed additional external storage but didn’t want to lug around a 2.5″ SSD drive. Instead I was able to use hook & loop tape, to attach this to the back of the laptop. I installed an 1 TB M2 2280 into it to allow me to use it as storage for another account. It also allows me to connect a few more items than the limited USB ports on the existing laptop. The only thing missing was an Ethernet port, but the laptop already has that, so it’s not really needed.I would buy this.
