Mike MacDonald –
This is my new go-to hydration pack for my annual adventures at EDC Las Vegas. I’ve used half a dozen different ones over the years, each with pros and cons, but this one seems to check all the boxes for my specific uses.
First off, the number of size and layout of the various compartments are spot on for me. The main compartment is just big enough to shove a windbreaker, hat, 3D glasses (I give them out as gifts) and a couple other small items into. The smaller outer compartment is perfect for things like tissues, gum, lighters and other supplies that I’m not concerned about getting stolen (it does happen). There is also an additional small zippered pocket that could hold very small items and would be fairly hard for a thief to get into without drawing my attention. A lastly, there are 2 zippered pockets attached to the belly strap that are great for holding your wallet, shuttle pass and other valuables that are critical to keep secured, and because they are located where my arms fall they seem perfect for that kind of stuff.
The shoulder straps are nice and wide and have thin padding which goes a long way to making the pack comfortable to wear for 12 hours at a time. This pack also includes a belly strap which I have found is really helpful for keeping the bag in place on your back while you’re dancing or running between stages. While the belly strap is just a simple nylon strap and doesn’t have any padding, I’m still happy to have it. Another notable feature of this pack is the thin, flexible backing that gives it just enough structure to not collapse onto itself when its not on your back, and also makes it more comfortable against your back when you’re wearing. I don’t recall any of my previous hydration packs having any structure so this is a definite upgrade for me personally.
The bladder has a nice wide opening which is great for those tricky motion-activated water filling stations that sometimes turn on when you least expect them to (and subsequently soak everything in your backpack). The bite valve is pretty standard and should be sufficient for my uses.
I really can’t think of any complaints I have about this bag, and considering the VERY reasonable price (currently just over $20), I would definitely give this one my highest recommendation!
Customer Review –
I’ve never had one of these before, partly because I could never afford the Camelbak ones and I never really did enough hiking, running, or similar things to need one of these.
But when I saw it offered on Vine, I figured I’d give it a shot, because why not.
I actually REALLY like it! I tend to take a backpack or some other kind of bag with me when I go places, just because I want to be able to have things I may need when I may need them. But sometimes a backpack is too large and bulky, especially if I’m really only needing to take a handful of smaller items.
This hydration backpack is perfect in that scenario.
It has the portion that holds the water bladder (you tuck the bladder into the insulated pocket to keep it cool), which is within the main pocket, leaving plenty of room in that main pocket for other items such as an umbrella, windbreaker, spare clothing, etc.
It also comes with two small refillable ice packs, which is awesome.
Then it has another, smaller zippered pocket in the front, with an area behind it for storing things that need to be grabbed quickly. Then there’s another small zippered pocket within that front pocket, and an even smaller one just above that at the top of the bag. (The pictures explain this a lot better than I can, sorry.)
It also has two mesh pockets on the side, where you’d normally carry a water bottle, but they’re deep enough that you could carry other things like an umbrella, maybe a camera tripod, rolled up map if people still use those, etc.
Oh, and it also has a zippered pocket on either side of the padded hip strap, which is awesome. You can easily put cash and/or cards in those pockets for easy access so that you don’t have to undo the backpack when you need those items.
This hydration backpack is really awesome, and it feels like it’s made with high-quality materials, both the bag itself and the water bladder.
The bag is almost all black (besides the couple small portions of grey reflective material), but the elastic cord on the front is neon green, which I really like for some reason. It’s not too much color, but just enough.
I’m really excited to put this to daily use this spring/summer when I’m out with the dogs all the time and out collecting bugs and watching spiders. This backpack is the perfect size for outings like that, because I can have the straw easily at hand, and I can have everything I need with me, but without all of the excess weight or discomfort of a larger bag.
Also, the way it fits and then clips around the hips and chest makes it very comfortable no matter how much weight is in it. The padding on the hips is very comfortable, and the whole thing fits nicely around my body so I don’t feel like it’s just hanging or flopping around if I move too much, so I love that.
I apologize for the lengthy rambling review, but I just really love this thing. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hydration backpack, and especially at this price ($22.99 USD)! I might even get one for each of my sisters and my kid, because I’m sure they’d love it!
