The Klipsch Austin – My New Favorite Speaker!
This speaker is fantastic! The sound quality is excellent for a single driver speaker. The bass is rich and deep (for the size), the mids are present and the highs are crisp. Overall, I’d say the sound signature is warm and has great clarity. The app also allows you to adjust the EQ for bass, mid and treble (3-band); though I would like to see a 10-band EQ for more fine-tuning. The 3-band EQ is sufficient for a speaker of this form-factor though. The fit and finish on these speakers is great! They are very aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing. The rubber coating is comfortable in the hand and reduces vibration when placed on a hard surface. I like the strap, but time will tell how durable it is. It seems sturdy enough though. The call quality is great as well. It seems to have noise-cancellation to prevent echo when using the speaker as a speaker phone.I’m a sucker for true wireless stereo (TWS) so I actually bought 2 of these. For anyone wondering, once they are paired in TWS mode, they will automatically pair in TWS mode when turned powered on. The buttons are also synced with one another when paired in TWS mode. The volume +/- controls both speakers and the power button only has to be pressed on one of the speakers and both will turn off. Nice!I only have a couple gripes. The first is the function tones. They are pleasant, but excessively long in duration in my opinion. They can be turned off in the app, but I would prefer to keep them on and just have more subtle tones. Maybe this is something Klipsch can update in a future firmware release. The second is the lack of a play/pause/multi-function button. It would be nice to have a way to control the playback and phone calls from the speaker. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, but may be for others.I’m no stranger to Bluetooth speakers. I have dozens of speakers from JBL, Sony, Soundcore and others. The Klipsch Austin stood out to me. It will be my new go-to travel speaker for sure!Overall, I’d highly recommend the Klipsch Austin. It would make a great gift for friends and family. They will not be disappointed!

    Big Sound For Its Size
Bought the Klipsch Austin to replace my Apple HomePod Mini in the kitchen. First appearance and this speaker is tiny, it’s about the size of 10-12 coasters, making very portable; more so than the Klipsch Groove. The speaker easily fits in the palm of your hand and comes with a strap. So if you’re looking for a portable speaker, this is it.As for the sound, it’s hitting above its size, and with tight sound. Added bonus it can be paired with a second, giving you true stereo sound, however I don’t think it’s really needed. This will get uncomfortably loud before you notice distortion.Something to consider, Klipsch mentions using this speaker with their Connect app to adjust sound EQ, however before downloading that app, connect the speaker to your phone’s Bluetooth and use the built in EQ in your music app. For example, I listen to country, rock and metal and the Rock EQ in the Apple Music app does the job for me.All in all, this little speaker isn’t disappointing and is doing what I need it to do. I might be buying this as Christmas stocking stuffers for friends and family.

    Small and Compact
We returned it. Kinda clunky with the strap. The controls are difficult to use. More by feel and not clear. We like Klipsch products and this sounded good, but the functionality was not good for use. The volume was weak. The battery power was probably as advertized.

    Covers all the bases
My primary use of this speaker is to listen to podcasts. Therefore speech quality and above average volume are a must. My three previous purchases never fulfilled my expectations. Only this one fully meets my needs. It is beautifully packaged and has an accompanying iPhone application to set up and configure the speaker. The price was reasonable given the obvious quality. My hats off to Klipsch!

    Terrific sound!
I mostly listen to classical music, and I appreciate the clarity, depth, frequency balance, and richness of the sound I’m getting on this little thing. I’m actually surprised it’s as good as it is, given how small it is. Better than my old JBL Flip 4 which this is replacing for me. I also like the square (as opposed to rectangular or circular) profile, the small size, the way it can lay flat on the table without sliding, rolling around, or flopping over (like the flip did), and so it’s the perfect travel speaker. Cannot weigh in yet on battery life, have not had it long enough. Only downsides are 1) no ‘pause’ button! I think power off/on and pause could be merged in a single button. Also, no skip forward. 2) The onboard controls, such as they are, are impossible to see: black on black. I need a small flashlight to brightly illuminate things. These nits would not stop me from highly recommending this speaker to anyone wanting terrific sound + small size.

I bought the Klipsch Detroit first and was very impressed with its perfectly balanced natural sound. Then I thought I’d like to have a similar sound in my pocket and ordered the Austin.Unfortunately, I was in for a big disappointment. In one of the first reviews, someone wrote that the king of micro speakers, the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2, was defeated.I have a Micro 2 and was able to compare, unfortunately I can’t confirm the fact that Austin won…Here’s an honest comparison of them:DesignAccording to the spec sheet, the Austin is only a few millimeters larger than the Micro 2.However, the Micro 2 is cushion-shaped with well-rounded edges, while the Austin is a rather sharp-angled unit, making it significantly larger and heavier. The front of the Austin looks very cheap with its metal grille and plastic logo, the Micro 2 has a fabric front with a metal logo.Austin can stand and lie down, Micro 2 can only lie down. I like a directional sound, so the Austin would be a better option. The Micro 2 has a very practical rubber strap that stretches well and is easy to fasten as the fastening mechanism is on the side of the speaker.Austin tries to copy this, but very poorly – the strap doesn’t have enough stretch and the clasp mechanism is on the back, so this speaker can only be attached to very thin items. Most of the buttons on the Micro 2 are on the front and are very easy to use, the buttons on the Austin are on the side, they are almost invisible and there is no multi-function button.Overall, the Micro 2 is better built and more portable, and feels like a premium product.Austin looks rough, awkward and cheap.Sound qualityThe sound of the Micro 2 is surprisingly powerful, full and robust, a true adventurer.Austin’s sound is weak, lacks bass, and treble is unnaturally hissing “sss, sss, sss”,…So, in terms of sound, Austin also loses because its sound is unnatural and harmful to the ears.Although the Micro 2 may sound too brash in a room, it sounds very good outdoors and can compete with speakers several times larger. It’s surprising that there can be such a big difference between two speakers of similar size, same power and same frequency range…Connectivity and battery life are pretty similar for both speakers, only at high volumes the Austin’s battery lasts much less than the Micro 2’sConclusionSo, the Micro 2 is a better speaker than the Austin in almost every aspect, so it continues to be the king of micro speakers. The Austin will be returned as it is a regular kitchen speaker in the same line as the Marshall Willen JBL Go, Flip or Clip.I do not recommend buying it even for the kitchen, because it does not justify its price. If you need a good pocket speaker for outdoor activities, the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 still has no serious competitors. If you just need a compact speaker with perfectly balanced universal sound, then there is the Tribit XSound Go, which is often sold for only €27.It’s a similar size and weight, just in a pill shape. It has stereo speakers, more power, longer battery life and a much better balanced sound than the Austin.
