No smell
I’d rate it 6 stars if I could. One cat who uses it about 2-3 times a day. After three months we have to change the litter every 25-27 days. We bought the pack of 3 disposable blue crystal trays. It will smell right after her movement but once the box rakes through the crystals it’s gone.We set it up beside her existing litter box and she started exploring. Checked after about 4-5 days and she’d used it a couple times. Took the old litter box up then. Threw it in the trash a week later. We ain’t going back to that again.

Works great for my cat
Is a bit pricey, but overall is worth the investment. I can’t learn to use this easily and makes less work for cat box clean up – I highly recommend this.

7-month Review
We have 2 cats in our home, and this is the first automatic litter box we’ve tried. I gave this litter box a real chance for 7 months, and it was not the time (or smell) saver I’d hoped it would be. I already knew it wouldn’t save me money because of the cost of the litter refill packs. With two cats, we needed to change the tray weekly, otherwise the smell of cat urine/ammonia was overwhelming. The trays were so gross to change because cat poo sticks to the rake, which probably also contributes to the lingering smell even after the litter box goes through its raking cycle. A traditional litter box that you scoop yourself was easier to maintain and left my house smelling better than this did. But, if you are looking for an automatic litter box, I would recommend the Litter Robot 4. I’ve only had it for 2 days, and it works like a dream. I wish I would have spent the money on it in the first place. I hope my review helps the next person considering switching to an automatic litter box.

Works great, no removable compartment to dump between tray changes
Edit-So I see the newest generation of this box and I am so upset I didn’t see this anywhere for purchase when I bought the original. I feel like I bought a money pit with these trays and crystal litter and it doesn’t even have the removable bin like the newest. This new one is everything I wanted but I didn’t see it was available anywhere although the release date was July 17 and I bought mine July 29. Pretty bummed. I wish I had the opportunity to get the newest version when I made my purchase.Other than shedding hair, having to scoop a litter box is the only drawback to having a cat, in my opinion. I have a new kitten. I bought this litter box knowing I didn’t want to scoop, obviously. I also have two older cats who will be coming back to live with me after a few years of travel nursing. I figured I needed to make the litter maintenance streamlined with an automated box. I was also hoping it would keep any smells down to zero.So far, this is my experience. First off, the litter trays are super expensive, nearly cost prohibitive. But if used properly, it is not so bad in comparison to the cost of clay litter for multiple cats, and you might as well get the reusable tray and buy the fresh step crystals. I have one kitten, and the only way I can avoid replacing a whole tray in less than a week is by removing the scooped poo from the stored compartment. I think this is how it should be used, and it just isn’t clarified. Any other auto box is going to require you to remove the scooped poo, but the difference with this one is that it doesn’t have a removable compartment you can dump. You have to remove the poo yourself. This is still better than scooping the old-fashioned way. Just grab gloves hold your nose, lift the storage compartment and hurry it into a bag. This will extend the life of the trays. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. Otherwise, you have to change the whole tray at least weekly, and this is just with a kitten. If you are going to replace the whole tray every time the compartment is full, then you might as well pay the 699 for one of those fancier contraptions that use the regular litter. By the time you pay for disposable litter trays on a weekly basis for the life of this box, you will have bought several of the high-priced fancy ones over and over. That compartment fills and stinks in less than a week with a kitten. It has to have the clumps removed. It does have some litter spill out of the compartment in the front end, and it sits. It is not a lot at all. Make sure you clean out from under there from time to time; it is a scant amount. I started putting a puppy pad under it so orders don’t absorb into the floor. Not a big deal. The litter doesn’t track at all. Have never used this crystal litter, but I love it.The kitten loves the box. At first, he freaked out by the fact it moved, but no problem with using it. When it’s quiet and starts working 20 minutes after its last use, we forget we have it and think someone is in the house, and then we both remember it’s just the box and go back to relaxing. It’s pretty quiet, though. My boyfriend loves that it is a clean way to manage litter; he is not a fan of cats and worries it will smell, but he is warming up to the cat and to the whole idea with this box.

Works great!
As you would expect, nothing is perfect, but this is LIFE CHANGING.No scooping. Minimal Odor. Counter helps keep track of when to change litter. I find that stirring every 10-15 rakes makes the litter last longer. I usually manually trigger a rake and stir in the litter from the corners. I bought the reusable tray and use a cheaper litter from Chewy. I also have 3 of them for my 3 cats. Litter lasts about 50 rakes for me. If you have a problem with odor, use arm and hammer litter deodorizer. Sprinkle some in the pan before the litter, then some on top and freshen up the top every few days.

About a 0% chance it will last 30 days as advertised!
I have really bad gag problems with stuff like smell and similar things, so when I got my first kitten I figured this would be perfect! At first, it worked decently well (Mind that the little one was only 10 weeks old at this point). She took to it really well and likes the crystal litter. However, I very quickly realized that there were problems. First, while it does help with odor control at first with a fresh set of litter, in about a week there is a veeeeeeery obvious smell that starts wafting from there. If that was it though I would still love this. It was once she got older that the bigger problems started. First it was the fact that 1 pack of litter can barely last a week. It gets so full that it literally starts to flow over the front edge of the bin. Second is the litter gets into the inside and I have to completely take apart the machine in order to get the motors to work and have the thing actually scoop. Also as she got bigger the crystals really started to get stuck into her paws and I find them over the entire house. This happens regardless of how many litter mats I put down. Finally while it does a decent job at dehydrating the poop like it’s supposed to, it essentially just lets the pee pool on the bottom, and the smell of that get really terrible. Overall it seems like this is made for smaller cats where the litter will actually have a chance to do it’s job. I have already ordered a new litter machine, but I really wish I had just done that in the first place.

This is honestly the best litter box I’ve ever had. My only complaint is that there is no hard bottom to it to put the litter tray onto. The litter tray is made of cardboard and just slides at the bottom, making it the base. I think for the price there should be a hard plastic base that you slide the cardboard tray onto to protect your floor.. I was a little bit shocked and looked for a long time to see if I was missing something. Other than that slight detail it has been an amazing litter box we never smell the litter. The app keeps track of when to change the tray and you just throw the whole tree into the garbage and open up another tray. I certainly would buy a piece for the bottom if I could however.

I like this box only reason I gave it lower stars is cost of refills I go through a box every 6 days with my 2 cats so it’s crazy expensive but I like the size of it it’s quiet and has been working well I have very picky cats and they don’t like using dirty box and so far no accidents just wish it cost less

This is a really tough product to review. But basically it doesn’t work that well and the litter really doesn’t remove bad odours. We have reverted to basic litter in a box, because quite frankly it’s easier and smell much better. Good idea but needs refinement.
