Best Video Lens for Sony Cameras
After much deliberation of whether I will really need or want a second 16-35 (I have the 16-35 GM, and I love it), I jumped the gun and bought this lens in anticipation of a dance video I was about to shoot. Cutting to the chase – after going through the videos and few stills I took with this lens – I can attest that it is a dream of a lens to use with my A7R4 (I know, it’s not a video camera, but so what) mounted on a DJI Ronin SC2. It balances so well on the body, super light weight, and extremely nimble and joy to use. The zoom range is extremely handy – 16mm on wide end, to 50mm on the tele end while using in crop mode. Unfortunately, because I primarily used it on a gimbal, I was not able to use the zoom rocker. Also I clearly missed reading the fact that the Ronin SC2 zooming does not work with this lens when coupled with the A7R4 body (may be some newer bodies do). But, if you happen to use it hand held, the zooming is super smooth and very predictable despite being electronically controlled. The focusing is smooth, does not hunt or jump, with my AF setting set as “Normal” in the camera. The best part is internal zooming, so the gimbal stays locked on. One thing to consider while purchasing this lens – is a ND filter. Because with 180 degree shutter rule, for a 30P video and 1/60th shutter speed, even at ISO 100 the exposure is super bright (and I do not want to ruin the background by going to F16). All in all – I am very impressed with this lens and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get an all in one sweet little feature packed masterpiece!Update 9/1/2022: I finally bought a variable ND filter (K&F Concept 72mm Variable ND2-ND400 ND Lens Filter (1-9 Stops)). But it looks like the lens hood is not compatible with it so I can use either the filter or the hood. Good news is, I am ok with having to choose either one of them based on the need of the hour, and no one is making their trip to Amazon returns center.

I have been using for a month. Lighter than FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM or Vario-Tessar T* FE 16â35mm F4 ZA OSS. I have used the Vario-Tessar T* FE 16â35mm F4 ZA OSS since ’15 used for astro Milky Way with pinpoint stars at 25s. An f/4 lens allows for a longer SS without star elongation. Now this lens is super sharp on the A7Rii, details of say people at 16mm when zoomed in at 200% is sharp and clear so cropping is no problem. Yes no OSS but with IBIS it captures great, focus is super fast, will focus on stars! Lr has LC but not needed really great RAW out of camera. Never thought about colors but sunset colors are great. 16mm is the goto for indoor capture vs 12mm and 35mm is a great range for a daily carry for landscaping or close city shot. 35mm is less than a inch and great for a close up like macro that is super sharp and wide open great DOF and milky bokeh.

The Best Overall Lens! I wish I had this as my first lens!
This lens is an incredible lens on the video side, itâs compatibility with many mirorless cameras from Sony makes it a deal. I have used this lens as a power zoom lens and I believe that this powerzoom is so nice because it lacks moving parts to be broken. Compared to its GM predecessor, it is small,light, and compact with a surprisingly good F4 aperture. This lens is great during the day, and definitely can take on some low light work. The many ways to control the zoom are very valuable from the zoom rocker on the lens to remotes and an actual zoom ring. This lens opens up a wide angle, and 35 being tighter. This lens is incredible, and i highly recommend it as an additional lens or a way to make movies. The powerzoom has so many possibility. This lens has a deserved 5 stars.

The Sony FE-PZ 16-35MM lens is an AMAZINGLY sharp and lightweight lens option in this focal length category.Let’s be honest, we all know the Sony 16-35mm GM II is the holy grail of this focal length but it is nearly DOUBLE the price of this lens. That being said, this FE-PZ shoots amazing photos and videos and is almost as good as the GM II. Moreover, this lens is considerably lighter and smaller than that lens as well. It is more than great for professional work, and although its biggest weakness is being capped at F4, I genuinely believe that’s completely sufficient. Considering this is a 16-35mm, it’s unlikely you’ll be doing photography where you’ll need sharp and clear bokeh (such as portrait photography) unless you’re shooting under very specific circumstances.Moreover, the power zoom is a useful, albeit niche, tool for adjusting focal lengths while filming and awesome for creating visual effects such as a dolly zoom. Considering most people will look at this lens primarily because of its focal length and more approachable price range, I consider this feature a welcome bonus to have because in terms of SONY lens, you’re not going to find better in this price range option currently for the 16-35mm range.I will attach photos I’ve shot on this lens, including some on the 16mm focal length.

I am pleased with my purchase; it seems like a wise decision to stick with a Sony lens while using a Sony camera. I decided to return the F2.8 wide-angle lens from another brand because I found the images it produced to be somewhat soft, despite F2.8 lens perform better than F4 in low light conditions. After using this lens for a while, I’ve discovered that both the 16mm and 35mm focal lengths are very practical, although the 16mm does exhibit some distortion at the edges of images, as is typical with wide-angle lenses.Previously, I relied on the Sony 24-105 F4 lens, which remained on my camera at all times. However, I’ve now switched to the 16-35mm lens because of its lighter weight and greater convenience. Most importantly, it fulfills most of my recreational photography needs.

En mi opinión personal con una A73 tiene una calidad muy buena en todo el rango focal, y colores muy naturales, es una excelente opción para una focal 16-35mm.Peeerooo… ¿La apertura f4.0 máxima es suficiente? Para video creo que por lo general sÃ. Para fotografÃa de dÃa y en exteriores es excelente también, pero no para interiores y menos nocturna a menos que estés dispuesto a sacrificar un ISO al doble que una apertura f2.8.Comparado con un Sigma Art 14-24mm f2.8, el Sigma es muy superior en nitidez y detalles sobre todo en lugares con contrastes altos y bastante superior en calidad periférica y sobre todo en las orillas, el color (gusto personal) me gusta más el sigma que es más cálido.En mi caso terminaré devolviéndolo ya que definitivamente prefiero un f2.8 y un ISO menor en interiores y poca luz.PROS:- Excelente para video.- Bueno para paisajes y uso diurno.- Anillo de apertura (Smooth y con click), controles MF, retención de Foco. Rocker para Zoom- A pesar de ser plástico (probablemente algún policarbonato), es una excelente construcción- Bastante nÃtido en todo el rango focal, incluso en las orillas aceptable.CONS:- f4.0: requiere el doble de luz que un f2.8 en las mismas condiciones.NEUTRO o a considerar:- Nitidez en periferia y orillas hay opciones superiores, como el Sigma 14-24mm f.28 Art, pero a precio también superior y con un rango focal diferente.- El zoom es electrónico, no mecánico, sin embargo es increÃblemente responsivo, en mi caso que me dedico a fotografÃa no tuve problema con él, pero depende completamente de gusto. I was not that impressed with this lens I bought it for a recent trip to Paris, but found it not that sharp compared to the Tamron 28-75mm or my Sony 24mm f2.8. The resolution on the mid range and not much better than a kit lens for image quality. Colors are neutral to flat. At F4.0 itâs not that great for night time photos. For the price, itâs average and a kit lens, but not for a photographer, maybe get away with video that is being color graded. I returned it and glad I did.
