    Works out of the box
*Does not require a driver: for folks like me, I did not realize that many of these docks/multiple display connection hubs require a driver to be installed on every computer that connects. This does not work for many business laptops, which may have restrictive installation limits for security reasons. This dock works out of the box with no drivers and connected to two screens at 4k x 60Hz (note: that are also different manufacturers–Dell and Philips monitors).*4k works on two monitors at 60 Hz; make sure your laptop can handle this video processing if you are extending your desktop (doing more than screen mirroring)*2 each of USB-A and USB-C connections (for webcam, USB drives). Note: only the front USB-C port can charge devices*Included 2.6 foot Thunderbolt 3 cable to connect your laptop*Charger is included: powers the dock and will charge your device(s) up to 95 wattsThere are scant few docks that do all of these things reliably (I returned two other docks that either did not do 4k on multiple monitors–despite advertising that they would–or required to function a driver that could not be installed). It also looks sturdily built and does not get overly warm/hot to the touch.

Works great with Apple M1 MacBook Pro and Dual 4k Displays
I have had absolutely zero problems with this new docking station. I am using dual LG 4k displays connected with DisplayPort. Does a much better job than the one my employer provided me with. No Zoom flickering of my displays or cameras!

    Doesn’t work. No Tech support
Tried with Macbook Air M2 running OS14.5. Only 1 monitor worked at a time. Driver doesn’t do anything and was last updated for OS 10.15. Called support line twice. Hung up after 25 minutes on hold without talking to a human. If you’re looking for a $200 doorstop, this is it.

no idea how to make it work
tried on a M1 mac pro. unable to download drivers because “it doesnt need drivers”. used display link software, plugged this thing, and it was not even recognized or blocked, it simply doesn’t exist. worst buy ever. trying to get it internatinally returned for a refund.

Works great with no apps for Max and Linux users
Many of the docking station need an additional app (displaylink) to work with multiple screens which is very sub optimal and never works smoothly. This one works right out of the box with both Linux and mac machines.

  6. Customer Review

Excellent TB3 dock with lots of display options and 96 watt Power Delivery
Startech makes lots of different USB C hubs and docks, networking hardware, display cables and adapters. The quality of their hardware is premium and up there with the best, even if they aren’t one of the first names you think of when you think about consumer facing tech products. This Thunderbolt dock is expensive but not more than normal considering what this dock gives you for the price. For displays, it supports 2x monitors @4k/60Hz. There are 2x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0, you can use any two of the four in whatever combination that you want to. If you just use 1 DisplayPort then it will support up to 8k/30Hz, it supports single HDMI as well (just not up to 8k). There are also 5 USB ports, 3x @10Gbps and 2x @5Gbps (2 are USB C and 3 are USB A). You get Gigabit Ethernet and a headphone and microphone jack. It can deliver up to 100 watts of USB C Power Delivery, 96 watts sustained. This is enough to charge a 16″ Macbook Pro from 2019 at full speed. It’s also plenty for most laptops other than gaming laptops or high end mobile workstations.I tested this dock out using an M1 Mac mini, M1 Macbook Pro, and a Surface Laptop 4. This does work with non-TB laptops. I couldn’t fully test use of the dual displays because M1 Macs only support 1 external display, The mini supports 1 external monitor over TB3 and a 2nd monitor over the Mac mini’s built in HDMI port only. The one downside of this dock is it doesn’t have an additional Thunderbolt port to allow you to connect something like a TB3 external drive or using it at the beginning of a TB daisy chain. A high quality 40Gbps TB3 cable is included in the box, along with the dock and a beefy power brick. The build quality of this dock is sturdy and the color scheme looks great next to a space gray Mac.Pros+96 watt USB C Power Delivery for laptops connected to this dockBuild quality, very solid and sturdyK slot for securing to desk in places where theft could be an issueCan using any 2 of the 4 ports for video out (2x DP 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0)The two front facing USB ports have charging (12 watts for USB A, 15 watts for USB C)Up to 8k/30 when using only one DisplayPort (with Nvidia Graphics, 5k for Intel integrated graphics, 6k for M1 Macs)Cons-Only one Thunderbolt 3 port (the one used to connect the laptop/desktop to the dock itself)M1 Macs can only support a single external display using this dock, the M1 mini can support a second display but only using it’s own built in HDMI port (This is a limitation of the Macs, NOT this dock)

Turn a USB C or Thunderbolt into an array of ports with a single cable
Back in the day you either had an expensive corporate laptop with a dock for that family of devices at a ridiculously high price or you had a knot of cables getting plugged into a bunch of ports. Nowadays USB C and Thunderbolt have made a new type of standards-based dock possible. This is one such dock. I’ve used a few of these, and there are two categories. Inexpensive solutions that are great for Android phones or occasional laptop use, and the ones for power users, such as this. What makes a $150-300 dock better than a $50-$100 one?SupportMultiple DisplayPortsThunderbolt portQuality detached cable vs one built in the unitIncluded power supply and high power PDHeft (to assure it doesn’t slide around)24/7 reliabilityThis checks all of those boxes. I’ve used some of the cheaper options on my ultrabooks, and they work ok, but you run into limits. Ones with short attached cords have limited placement options. Ones with a single DisplayPort fall short of my needs. Ones that weigh a couple ounces fling around. This suffers from none of those issues. Image quality and port speed are indistinguishable from direct connections, and there have been no disruptions in connectivity or need for me to disconnect and reconnect. All of those things done well to allow me to work efficiently and without disruption are why I recommend this, especially if you have Thunderbolt ports.
