Works fantastic with 5K monitor and M1 Pro
I tried my luck by spending thirty bucks rather and two hundred to connect my MacBook Pro with M1 Pro to a 5K monitor and this works like a charm WITHOUT any additional software. A few other docks I have tried have been unmitigated disasters and cost significantly more.Keep in mind you need a USB-C charger as it does not come with a power adapter and the attached usb-c cable is a bit short. That said, these are minor quibbles when considering the price.I love it!

A useful USB-C hub for a good price – a word of caution though
On the whole, this is a very useful USB-C hub, packing in nearly every sort of port that you could reasonably want – HDMI, DisplayPort, ethernet, USB-A and USB-C (for power delivery) along with SD and MicroSD card readers. It’s compact and a pretty good price as well compared to similar products from more established brands. The construction is reasonable enough, especially considering the price – it doesn’t give you the “built like a tank” feel, but it also doesn’t feel like it’s about to fall apart either and has seemed durable enough.I was able to try it with a number of different devices and it worked flawlessly across MOST of them. I did see some odd behavior using DisplayPort out on an iPad Pro where it just wanted to mirror the screen despite being set to extend (a new Stage Manager feature in iPadOS) but disconnecting it and trying again fixed that. It worked flawlessly with Thunderbolt 4 ports on both a Windows laptop and a Chromebook. But I did run into some problems with a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (including DisplayPort Alt Mode and PD) port on an AMD powered laptop. I wanted to use USB-A, power delivery and video out at the same time, but could only ever get 2 of the 3 to work together (i.e., I could get power and video, but not USB-A….or USB-A and video, but not power). I know this laptop can do all 3 as it works on other hubs, so not sure what the issue is there. But you should be fine if you either (1) want to use it with ports supporting Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB 4 and/or (2) don’t intend to use many of the ports at the same time as I was trying to do.So with that caveat, I can still recommend this hub and I’ll still be using it – I’ll just have to remember to also use a separate power connection if I use it with that AMD laptop.

This is a slim USB 3.1 hub with USB-C, USB-A, ethernet, HDMI, DP, SD and micro SD. It is built very well. The housing is metal and lightweight. It is very small. I replaced a larger dock that was the size of a brick with this Skycyber dock to reduce clutter on my desk. I will also use this for travel. The ethernet uses a ASIX AX88179A USB 3.2 Gen1 to Gigabit chipset. It is plug and play. Just plug it in and connect up the peripherals. Windows automatically installs the drivers. It works well. It’s fast and has no drops, stutters, or hangs. I use this to add an ethernet port to my Lenovo Yoga 730. I have the dock connected to the Thunderbolt port. A lot of laptops nowadays don’t come with an ethernet port. Add one with this. I also tried it on my Samsung Tab S7 Plus. It needed PD power and displayed only mirrored dual monitors due to Samsung limitation, but everything worked well too.It gets pretty warm when in use. I haven’t seen any issues while using it. It’s been flawless. I wasn’t able to test 8K. The Amazon product page gives a pretty good breakdown on max resolutions. If there is need for higher resolutions or more than two monitors, I use a Thunderbolt external GPU.Overall the Skycyber dock adds a multitude of ports and works flawlessly.

Did not work on my system
I was excited to use this with my dual monitors, but unfortunately it did nothing for me except act as a USB hub.I’m giving this a bit of the benefit of the doubt that it may have been user error, but I think with better instructions I would have had a better chance of getting my monitors to work.

Skycyber DarkFrost X 8K Docking Station – update
Update 07/10/24: The hdmi/monitor connection keeps cutting out, and it’s getting worse over time. Several times a day, when working with my laptop connected to this device, the monitor will lose connection and go black. It’s gotten to the point where it’s really annoying, so I have decided to stop using this hub.For my needs, it’s working perfectly. I have a Dell laptop I take between my bedroom and basement, and have a docking station at each monitor. This one has provided no issues when connecting my Acer monitor, USB desk lamp, and USB mouse and keyboard dongle. My other nearly identical dock station downstairs gets really hot, has sharp edges, and often doesn’t properly power up the HDMI cable for my monitor. This one has worked flawlessly so far.I am using this with a Dell laptop to just duplicate my display. I am running Windows 11.I think these are a little overpriced at $40, however. The included instructions do note lifetime technical support, and a 18-month limited warranty.

great docking station to save time connect/disconnect cables
I use this 8-in-1 docking station to connect USB peripherals (keyboard/mouse & scanner), dual monitors (HDMI & DP), SD/microSD cards, and Ethernet cable. It saves time & confusion trying to connect/disconnect cables in the dark. Now I only have to connect 1 cable to the laptop and use the same USB-C port to simultaneously charge & transfer data. The ethernet port have LED indicators to let you know if your network is running Gigabit or slower speed. I haven’t run any data transfer speed test because I’m not an IT person but transfer data to/from an SSD backup drive is plenty fast for my needs. The 2 USB-3 ports are good but I could use more. The appear to be room on the other side of the hub to have another 2 USB ports. The photo stated 100W PD but the detailed description said 85W so I’m not sure which is more correct. It charges my LG Gram 17″ just fine.
